Camp Emes Gardeners at the Carmel forest

Camp Emes Gardeners at the Carmel forest July 18 2011 December 2, 2010- a conflagration ignites a deadly forest fire beginning on Har Hacarmel in the North of Eretz Yisrael just south of Chaifa. The fire spreads quickly consuming most of the Mediterranean forest covering the region and claiming the lives of at least 44 people. After 5 days of raging fires, finally the fires get extinguished leaving behind tremendous devastation, the mountain in ruins ,many wounded and numerous families mourning their loved ones. Tuesday July 18th the Keren Kayemet L’Yisrael organization enlisted the campers and staff of Camp Emes for their volunteer services. Our park ranger, Yoav showed us the site of where the fire had begun and pointed out the vast damage that was caused by this disaster. Yoav taught the boys that certain trees need to be removed to begin the rebuilding process and our boys proceeded to just do that. Armed with goggles, helmets, gloves and jig-saws the hard work began. While thrilled to be at Har Hacarmel the biblical site of many stories (most famous in connection with Eliyahu Hanavi and his showdown with the worshippers of Baal) the boys saw firsthand this great tragedy and got actively involved in the repair work and were infused with tremendous inspiration with the realization that they were working the holy land of Artzeinu Hakedosha.

Camp Emes pack Shabbos food packages at Yad Eliezer

Camp Emes pack Shabbos food packages at Yad Eliezer July 14 2011 Thanks to Rabbi Yossi Kaufman of Yad Eliezer we have been made aware of the dire and bitter circumstances of those in Eretz Yisrael, living beneath the poverty line. This past Wednesday, Camp Emes campers and staff donated their time and effort in efficiently helping to pack close to 800 boxes for the poor and needy. The Yad Eliezer warehouse in Romema was teeming with our energetic and hardworking team. After a short video explaining and detailing the great work of this unique organization,an assembly line was put to work. The boys worked very quickly B’Achdus and with great joy to have been a part of this great Mitzvah. A special thanks to all the staff members and campers alike for all their efforts!
